Figure Ground Paintings

In a way these are ambigrams, as they are words that can be read two ways. But the term ambigrams has come to connote symmetrically designed words and, more specifically, rotational symmetry. To me, the figure/ground reversal paintings are the descendants of ambigrams. Most importantly, they allow the viewer to read both words without having to move, or move the artwork.
